Fundraising

I now have 100% of the fundraising target for Tearfund. Huge thankyou to everyone who has donated, never dreamed I would get this much support! Any donations going forward will go direct to Tearfund's partner charity Go MAD whom I will be working with directly. From the outset Go MAD asked for a minimum direct donation of £300 but because I never thought I'd raise all of the Tearfund £2700 target, I haven't mentioned this previously!

Sunday 6 March 2016

Finished!

Exhausted!

Could not have run another step!

Cityscape

The bridges of Newcastle

Really having to dig deep!

The Tyne promenade

Can see The Angel of the North

Approaching Newcastle

Very calm River Tyne, complete with boat races and riverside cycle path. Now having to watch out for cyclists.

Descending to the River Tyne

Newcastle in sight!

Heddon on the Wall

The half way point if today at 15 miles.

Ground thawing

Getting boggy again, so wet feet!

Portgate

Bit of history .... A great gate stood here where Dere Street ran north of the wall. It was excavated in 1966, it is now beneath the roundabout (progress)

60 mile mark

Approaching Portgate

Through the woods

Snow on the hills

To the North and the South I can see snow on the hills.
These stiles do nothing for your rhythm!

Cold and bright

Running on frozen ground with temperature at zero. Close to the road today, so running without backpack.

The Battle of Heavenfield

Passing the site where in 634 King Oswald of Northumbria defeated King Cadwallon of Gwynedd despite inferior numbers, having erected a cross and prayed to God for help.

Start of day 3

Crossing the river at Chollerford, about 8.30am, about 30 miles to Wallsend. Have I enough in the tank?

Saturday 5 March 2016

Finished day 2

25.55 miles and it hurts. Now at Chollerford. Really tough day, just hope there is enough left to finish tomorrow.

Nearly finished

Passing Chester's Roman Fort

Really tough now

Run through sleet and rain in the last hour and legs really feeling the effects of over 20 miles of upland hill running. It is a major effort to keep going now.
Passing Brocolitia Fort.

Housesteads

Just passing probably the most famous fort on the wall. You can see it behind me on the hill.

The sun came out!

A remote landscape

Some really steep descents

Really have to watch the footing on these wet rocks!

Mile Castle 39

Some really hard climbs today

Passing Steel Rigg

10 miles covered today so far

Now into Northumberland

Towards Gilsland

Banks East Turret

The was a mile castle every Roman mile 1.48km and 2 turrets equally spaced between each mile castle.

Start of day 2

9.18am and the weather is damp, but not raining, light wind, but cold. Start at Banks.
